Business area: {{area}}
Strategic objectives: {{objectives}}
Current measurement gaps: {{gaps: none known}}
Reporting frequency: {{frequency: weekly/monthly/quarterly}}
## KPI Design
For each recommended KPI:
### KPI: [Name]
- **Definition:** Exactly what is measured and how
- **Formula:** [numerator] / [denominator] × 100 (or applicable formula)
- **Data source:** Where the numbers come from
- **Frequency:** How often measured
- **Owner:** Who is accountable
- **Target:** [value] based on [rationale]
- **Thresholds:**
- Green: [range]
- Yellow: [range]
- Red: [range]
## KPI Hierarchy
| Level | KPI | Supports Which Objective | Leading or Lagging? |
## Anti-KPI Check
For each KPI, identify potential gaming behaviors:
| KPI | How It Could Be Gamed | Balancing Metric |
## Implementation Plan
| KPI | Data Available? | Tool for Tracking | Setup Effort | Go-Live Date |
Tips
- Every KPI needs a balancing metric to prevent gaming — if you measure speed, also measure quality
- Leading indicators predict the future; lagging indicators confirm the past — you need both
- If you can't define the formula precisely, the KPI isn't ready for use
- Fewer KPIs are better — aim for 5-7 per business area, not 20
